Knect

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 20, 2026

Knect is a private, single-user project created and operated by Joshua Herzig-Marx (the "owner"). It runs locally on the owner's own computer and is not offered to the public. It may be released as open source on GitHub in the future. This policy describes what the software does with data, including data it receives from Google.

What Knect accesses

With the owner's consent, Knect reads data from the owner's own accounts so it can keep track of the people the owner communicates with. That includes the owner's Google Contacts (read-only, using the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/contacts.readonly scope) and, through the owner's own existing connections, email, calendar entries and messages.

How Google Contacts data is used

Knect uses Google Contacts data only to match names, email addresses, phone numbers and their labels (for example "mobile" or "work") to people the owner has already communicated with, so that one real person is not shown as several. It does not use contacts to add strangers to the owner's list and it never changes, creates or deletes contacts.

Where data is stored

All data Knect receives is stored in a database on the owner's own computer. Knect has no servers that receive this data. This website collects nothing and sets no cookies.

Sharing and transfer

Knect does not sell Google user data, does not share it with anyone, does not use it for advertising, and does not allow people to read it, except when the owner is looking at it in the app on the owner's own computer.

To judge whether a message or person matters, Knect may send excerpts of the owner's messages and a person's display name to an AI model service (OpenRouter) at the owner's direction. That display name may have come from a contact card. Other details received from Google Contacts, such as phone numbers, email addresses and notes, are not sent. These requests are made only to provide Knect's features for the owner, and the AI results are stored only on the owner's computer.

Google API Services User Data Policy

Knect's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Retention, deletion and revoking access

Data stays on the owner's computer until the owner deletes it. The owner can revoke Knect's access to Google data at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, and can delete the local database at any time.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
